FAITH FORMATION
Faith Formation (Catechesis) - “Catechesis is the process of transmitting the Gospel, as the Christian community has received it, understands it, celebrates it and communicates it in many ways.” (General Directory for Catechesis #105)
Nature and Purpose of Catechesis
The aim of catechesis is to lead believers to a deeper knowledge and love of Christ and the Church and a firm commitment to follow him. Jesus Christ is at the heart of all catechesis. It is in communion with Jesus that all believers share in the mystery of the Holy Trinity—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Summary of the National Directory for Catechesis, p 10)

Elementary Faith Formation (Grades 1 through 6)
In our Elementary classes, students explore a variety of Catholic Christian teachings and practices, including sacraments, morality, prayer, and social justice. Using our spiral curriculum, our children are formed in the richness of our faith year after year, going deeper in their journey to know, love and serve the Lord, Christian service, the Trinity, the Church, and Scripture. Catechists present lessons involving a diverse array of activities and learning/teaching methods to best foster children’s growth in their faith. Faith Formation Sessions for grades 1 through 6 Wednesday evenings 6:00 pm -7:30 pm September through April at St. Philip Neri Church |

Faith Formation (Grades 7-12)
Something New is Happening! We are trying something new with our 7-12 grades! This year the 7-12 graders are gathering together for Faith Formation. We are using a topic/discussion format much like the Group Workcamp organization uses when our kids go on the mission trip. This format seems to work very well for our young people who have been on the Workcamp mission trip. Our kids are touched by the Spirit and engage in this process, which we hear as they give witness to us on the Sunday they return from the trip. This new format also includes trips away from the parish for team building activities, service projects and retreats/youth events and fun community building activities. Faith Formation for those in grades 7-12 generally takes place bi-weekly on Sundays from September through April with some Saturday events. Please keep updated on the changing schedule as events are scheduled. |
